Description

Our guide-astronomer will be waiting for you at the starting point of the trail, or, if you have contracted our transport service, we will pick you up at your place of accommodation and we will go together up to the starting point of the trail.  Teide National Park.

The route will allow us to walk, still in daylight, between recent volcanoes on the edge of the Canary Island pine forest and the high mountain vegetation. Perhaps we will be able to hear and see some birds along the way, such as the road warbler or the blue chaffinch. Also some lizards often cross the path, especially in summer.

Undoubtedly, what will probably capture your attention most will be the magnificent landscapes of the sunset on Mount Teide, the sea of clouds, the neighbouring islands emerging from the blue Atlantic and the views over the forests and volcanoes of the island of Tenerife. The contrast of blue, green, white and ochre colours are worthy of a painter's palette. The pure mountain air and the peaceful silence of the place will make us enjoy the experience from the very beginning.

Soon we will reach the captivating magic of the sunset, which is different every day, every time. It will not be time to say goodbye as we will continue the Night Walk on Teide, enjoying the twilight and later the light of our torches, or the moon if it accompanies us tonight.

The excursion takes place in an area with a clear and protected sky, ideal for astronomical observation. Little by little, bright dots have been appearing in the sky, and our guide will show you how to see them with the naked eye and with the help of a laser pointer and astronomical binoculars. You will learn how to orient yourself, discover how the sky moves and recognise different constellations, planets and the Milky Way.

We hope to surprise you with a beautiful route and tell you a lot of things that will make you discover and appreciate our island and the night sky a little bit more. We finish taking you back to your accommodation if you have hired the transportation with us.

Get Ready

The temperature contrast between day and night at sunset, and also due to the altitude, can be very significant. At night, it is often cold and windy in the Teide National Park, at an altitude of 2,000 metres. In addition, ddepending on the season, you will need more layers, especially in winter. In summer, the warm temperatures on the coast should not make you think that it will be hot at 2,000 metres above sea level and at night. To enjoy your hike, the most important thing is to protect yourself from the cold and wind by wrapping your body in several layers of warm clothing.

What do you need to bring?

  • Coat: Thermal T-shirt, warm and windproof coat. Thermal trousers and long trousers. Gloves, hat and scarf. Thick socks and closed footwear thick-soled hiking or mountain footwear.

  • Drink: It is very important to stay hydrated during the hike to feel well, especially considering the dry weather conditions in the Teide National Park. The ideal is to bring a thermos with water (so that it retains its temperature and does not get cold) or a hot drink such as tea, coffee or chocolate.

  • Food: You can bring something to eat such as a sandwich, pasta or rice salad, nuts, gofio, chocolate, energy bars or fruit.

  • Hand cream and chapstick: Since humidity is usually low, lips and hands dry out quickly, so we recommend that you bring a lip balm and hand cream.

  • Sunglasses: Protect your eyesight during sunset and twilight.

  • Flashlight: To light the way when it gets dark. Remember that torches with a red light mode are especially for astronomy, as they avoid dazzling you during observation.

  • Litter bag: To avoid leaving traces of your passage and help to keep Teide National Park clean, put your waste in a container or litter bag that you can then throw in a litter bin. In the National Park and on the island you will find waste bins and containers for separating waste. If you are not sure whether any of the waste you generate is recyclable, ask us and we will tell you.

  • Astronomical binoculars (we recommend 7x50 or higher) and Photo camera (we recommend SLR type with tripod): If you have any of these objects, we encourage you to take them with you.

Meeting

When you make your booking we will tell you the time and meeting point, either at your accommodation, if you have chosen the transport option with us, or at the starting point of the excursion. The timetable varies depending on the time of year. We will also let you know who your guide will be and our contact details for any queries you may have.

Frequently Asked Questions
