Description
Guided hiking tour to Pico del Teide (3,715m / 12198ft) on the Montaña Blanca trail. This route starts at an altitude of 2,350 metres / 7709ft, on the road that crosses the National Park and climbs up to the highest peak in Spain, passing the Altavista Refuge and the upper station of the Teide Cable Car.
During the walk we can enjoy the magnificent landscapes with the pumice stone fields from the eruption of Montaña Blanca and the black lava from the last eruption of Teide, of which the so-called Huevos del Teide (Teide Eggs) are also part.
The botanical attractions of the route will allow us to observe, among others, endemic species such as the tajinaste picante, the Teide violet, the Teide daisy and the Teide broom.
We will learn about the work of ancient trades, sulphur diggers, and the stories of ancient scientific and discovery expeditions that travelled the route before us.
We will have the Permission to climb from La Rambleta (3.555m / 11646ft) to the Pico del Teide from where we will enjoy 360º panoramic views of the whole island of Tenerife and several neighbouring islands that emerge between the blue of the sea and the sky and the white of the sea of clouds.
We descend to La Rambleta and take the Teide cable car down (downhill ticket included) and finish the excursion by returning to our vehicle.

In order to book the Permit to Access the Peak of Teide for you, we need from each participant the following info:

On the day of the excursion, you will need to bring your identity document (ID or Passport). We will bring the permit. The National Park rangers will match both documents and we will be able to access the path that leads to Pico del Teide.

For this excursion it is necessary to have:
Habit of hiking or other sporting activity.
Good general health, without cardiorespiratory or other problems incompatible with the activity.
Sufficient physical preparation to walk on uneven terrain, in the mountains, over 3,000m / 10,000ft in altitude and a cumulative ascent of +1,400m / +4,600ft.

In order to define the general difficulty of the activity (being aware that it may differ for each person according to their particular conditions), we have established 10 parameters and a risk scale with 5 levels. In addition, we indicate what actions we take to prevent these risks and give you some tips and recommendations that can help us to prevent them.

The hike ranges between 2,350 and 3,715 metres above sea level, most of which is a gradual ascent with a steep gradient.
Prevention: Our guide will set a slow and steady rhythm that everyone can follow.
Cansancio: medio
La menor presencia de oxígeno a esta altura conlleva una mayor dificultad para recuperarse del ejercicio. Sin embargo, la distancia y la duración de la excursión no es elevada.
Prevención: Nuestro guía propondrá paradas frecuentes en el camino para recobrar el aliento antes de proseguir.
Vértigo: bajo
Dos posibles situaciones se pueden dar para personas con muy alta sensibilidad al vértigo: iniciando la bajada desde el Pico del Teide, por ser rampas de bastante pendiente; y en la bajada en teleférico, en caso de aproximarse a los cristales.
Prevención: Situarse en el centro del teleférico rodeado por otras personas. En caso de gran sensibilidad, evitar el teleférico y bajar a pie.
Claustrofobia: bajo
Únicamente podría darse en el teleférico, pero tiene cristales al exterior en sus 4 lados, por lo que se ve el paisaje y hay sensación de espacio abierto.
Prevención: Situarse junto a los cristales y las puertas del teleférico. En caso de gran sensibilidad, evitar el teleférico y bajar a pie.
Mal de Altura: medio
Se podría presentar como dolor de cabeza y náuseas al caminar en alta montaña.
Prevención: Llevaremos lo necesario en la mochila, evitando sobrecargas. Caminaremos despacio evitando las prisas y grandes sobreesfuerzos. Iremos haciendo pausas para explicar los paisajes y elementos interesantes, aclimatándonos poco a poco al ascenso. Beberemos y comeremos en pequeñas cantidades regularmente para mantener la hidratación y energía necesaria para afrontar la actividad. En caso severo, dejaremos de ascender y descenderemos inmediatamente.
Caídas: medio
El terreno es en ocasiones irregular, pedregoso e inestable, especialmente en la segunda parte del sendero, pero el hecho de que la excursión se desarrolle mayoritariamente en ascenso y con un ritmo bajo, reduce la posibilidad. Sin embargo, una caída en este terreno volcánico y pedregoso requerirá seguramente, en un caso leve, de una cura de primeros auxilios.
Prevención: Te recomendamos usar bastones, para una mejor estabilidad; mantener la atención en el camino al avanzar, parando cuando quieras realizar alguna acción como hacer una foto, comer, abrigarte, mirar al móvil, etc.; y extremar las precauciones, especialmente en la bajada final desde el Pico del Teide hasta el teleférico. Nuestro guía lleva botiquín para hacer las curas necesarias de primeros auxilios.
Insolación: alto
La exposición al sol es permanente durante toda la excursión y durante todo el año. No hay sombra y no suele haber nubes que tapen el sol. El ambiente es seco y las condiciones de humedad son bajas.
Prevención: Es necesario llevar protección solar elevada para la piel, especialmente para la cara y los labios, gorra o sombrero, gafas de sol de alta protección ultravioleta, recomendamos ropa de color claro en los meses de verano, es posible ir en ropa de manga corta o larga según la preferencia propia, llevar abundante agua y opcionalmente alguna bebida isotónica.
Frío: medio
Según las condiciones meteorológicas del día, las temperaturas pueden ser bajas, especialmente temprano por la mañana y al ir ascendiendo en altura. En invierno es posible encontrar nieve y hielo en el sendero.
Prevención: Llevar varias capas de abrigo y, según las condiciones en invierno, recomendamos guantes y gorro. Lo que no sea necesario, se podrá quedar en el vehículo antes de iniciar la excursión.
Lluvia: bajo
No suele llover en esta ruta.
Prevención: En caso de ser necesario en algún día en particular, te avisaremos con antelación.
Viento: medio
Algunos días puede haber viento moderado a fuerte, especialmente en el Pico del Teide. La presencia de viento puede aumentar la sensación térmica de frío o la deshidratación por falta de humedad en el ambiente.
Prevención: Recomendamos llevar una buena chaqueta cortaviento y algún abrigo suplementario, es importante proteger el cuello y también las orejas con algún tipo de prenda para este uso, así como contar con un sombrero o gorra con buena sujeción a la cabeza que no se vuele y permita todavía protegerte del sol.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. We take care of the Peak of Teide permit for you. To request the Permit it is necessary that when making the reservation you provide information of all the participants (names, surnames and ID or Passports).
Each person must bring their personal identification document on the excursion day. Access to the Peak of Teide is regulated to preserve this highly fragile place, also for security reasons and to offer a quality experience avoiding crowds. Therefore, only 200 permits are issued for each day.
The permit is free and valid for 2 hours. Depending on te availability, we will book the time slot that best suits our excursion, normally from 9 to 11 am.
We must descend walking.
If the Teide cable car closes on the day of our hike, our guide will inform you about the closure and the need to walk down.
If you decide to go ahead, we will have to walk down the same path that we have climbed. This decision increases the difficulty and duration of the excursion, increasing the distance 8,1 kilometres and the descent -1,200 meters, for a total of 17,6km distance / +1,400m ascent / -1,400m descent. If you are prepared for this challenge and our guide assesses that it is possible to do it safely, we will make the ascent to the peak of Teide and the descent on foot. The budget for the descent by cable car will cover the costs of extending the excursion, so the part corresponding to the descent by cable car will not be refunded.
You can also decide not to continue ascending and to turn back, going down the same path that you have walked up to that moment, always under the safety criteria established by our guide. In this case, we will proceed to refund the cable car descent ticket, but the rest will not be refunded once the excursion has started.
Usually, the Teide cable car takes the decision to open or close between 08:00 and 09:00 am and we are already on our way up to the Peak of Teide. We will notify you of the closure as soon as possible.
