Description
We carry out the activity in an area of easy accessibility and clear skies which is usually above the sea of clouds. The mountainous relief of our island, which is over 2,000 metres high, and the particular climatic conditions of the Canary Islands are the two factors that allow us to have enviable sky visibility conditions, among the most stable in the world throughout the year. This is also why numerous astronomical telescopes have been installed on the summits of Tenerife at the Teide Observatory and why numerous astronomical and scientific expeditions have searched the skies of Tenerife over the last two centuries. In this experience you will discover the extraordinary quality of the sky of Tenerife and you will become aware of the importance of having the Law of the Sky, which allows us to preserve the natural values of this environment for our enjoyment.
We start the observation with the naked eye orienting ourselves and discovering which celestial objects can be seen in the sky tonight. To do this, our astronomer-guide will use an astronomical laser pointer, which will indicate stars, planets, satellites, constellations and the Milky Way. We may be lucky enough to see a shooting star or coincide our observation with a star shower.
Once we are in the night sky, we will use the astronomical telescope to locate and observe the most significant and interesting celestial objects that night, such as nebulae, galaxies, double stars, clusters and the Moon, if present.
We will try to connect with what you already know, surprise you with a lot of things you didn't know about our night sky and our astronomical neighbourhood, demystify possible beliefs that we sometimes take as true and give you a close, entertaining and informative experience. We are sure that you have many concerns, doubts and questions about some of those bright dots on the sky and about what happens up there. With our guide you will be able to solve many of them and we encourage you to ask anything you don't know or are not sure about.
We will also dedicate time to bring to life the many constellations, stories, legends and mythologies that the sky tells us, some of which are closely linked to the Canary Islands, such as the Dragon.

Being in good general health, not suffering from cardiorespiratory or other problems incompatible with carrying out an activity at 2,000 meters above sea level.

Although we will be at an altitude of about 2,000 metres, altitude sickness is very rare.
Prevention: Make the ascent in a vehicle slowly, driving smoothly and stopping along the way to acclimatise to the altitude. Drink regularly to maintain hydration. In severe cases, end the activity and descend immediately.

The Observation is static, standing still in the same place, albeit at night and in the dark.
Prevention: Carry a torch so that you can shine it when necessary. A torch with a red light mode is ideal for astronomy because it does not dazzle when used while observing the sky. Our guide carries a first aid kit to provide the necessary first aid in case of a fall.

Cold: high
Since the activity takes place at an altitude of 2,000 metres, temperatures drop considerably at sunset, especially in the winter months. In winter the temperature is usually 0-10ºC, while in summer it is usually 10-15ºC. .
Prevention: It is important to wear enough warm layers to keep you warm and comfortable throughout the activity. Thick-soled shoes and thick socks to insulate you from the ground. We also recommend wearing gloves, a hat and scarf. You can bring a blanket to wrap yourself in and a warm drink.
Dress warmly. It is better to take some extra warm clothes than to be cold. What is not necessary can be left in the vehicle.

On some days it may be windy. The presence of wind can increase wind chill or dehydration.
Prevention: We recommend wearing a good windproof jacket and an extra coat. It is important to protect your neck and ears with some sort of garment. We will be in a place that is as sheltered from the wind as possible.

What do you need to bring?
The temperature contrast between day and night at sunset, and also due to the altitude, can be very significant. At night, it is often cold and windy in the Teide National Park, at an altitude of 2,000 metres. In addition, depending on the season, you will need more layers, especially in winter. In summer, the warm temperatures on the coast should not make you think that it will be hot at 2,000 metres above sea level and at night. To enjoy your hike, the most important thing is to protect yourself from the cold and wind by wrapping your body in several layers of warm clothing.
Coat: Thermal T-shirt, warm and windproof coat. Thermal trousers and long trousers. Gloves, hat and scarf. Thick socks and closed shoes with thick soles that allow walking on uneven terrain.
Hand cream y chapstick: As humidity is usually low, lips and hands dry out quickly, so we recommend that you carry a lip balm and hand cream.
Flashlight: For lighting during the activity. Remember that red light torches are special for astronomy, as they avoid dazzling you during the observation.
Drink: It is very important to stay hydrated during the excursion to feel well, especially considering the dry weather conditions in the Teide National Park. Ideally, you should bring a thermos with water (so that it keeps its temperature and does not get cold) or a hot drink such as tea, coffee or chocolate.
Food: You can bring something to eat if you haven't had lunch or dinner before the excursion or in case you might get hungry.
Bag or bin: To avoid leaving traces of your passage and to help keep Teide National Park clean, put your waste in a rubbish bag that you can throw away in a bin. In the National Park and on the island you will find litter bins and waste separation containers. If you are not sure whether any of the waste you generate is recyclable, ask us and we will tell you.
Astronomical binoculars (we recommend 7x50 or higher) and Photo camera (we recommend SLR type with tripod): If you have any of these objects, we encourage you to take them with you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. The temperatures at 2,000 meters above sea level are lower and colder than on the coast, even in Tenerife. Despite the fact that the relative humidity is usually quite low and the climate is dry, when it is windy, the feeling of cold increases.
Remember to wear closed shoes with a good sole, thick socks, long warm pants and several layers of clothing. Gloves, cap and scarf are recommended in winter, and even in summer for a greater comfort. If you hesitate to bring a lot or a little coat, we recommend you take everything you have, if you don't use it, nothing happens, you can leave it in the car. If you wear little clothing, you may not feel comfortable and not enjoy the activity.
If you have hand cream and lip balm, take them with you, The air is usually dry and you will notice that your lips and hands get dry. Using a hand cream may be useful.
No. During the excursion we will be in nature and there will be no toilet facilities. Therefore, in case you need to go to the toilet, it will be necessary to use nature, avoiding leaving any kind of waste. We recommend that you bring tissues and a rubbish bag so that you can dispose of used tissues and any other waste in it and then throw it away in the rubbish bins that we will find in the car park next to the transport or on the way back in an urban area.
Remember that we are in a National Park and every action we take helps to keep it clean and protect it
No. You can have dinner before the start of the activity (in summer) or after the activity (in winter), or bring something to eat. On private excursions we can organise dinner during the excursion, please ask us!
No. The route does not include a visit to the Teide Observatory because the astrophysicists work at night and it is not possible to visit the facilities while they are working. For the observation we use a portable amateur telescope. If you wish to visit the Teide Observatory during the day. We can organise it if you are interested, combining it with the sky observation experience, please contact us and we will customise your excursion!

We visited Tenerife in the middle of July and because planning is not our strength, only started deciding what to visit only a few days before the trip, thus missing the opportunity to ascend Teide.
However after finding about and contacting CNG, there was a slot for visiting summit...which we also missed :D
What I wanted to point out is how fast CNG responded to my questions.
As an alternative we decided to try out stargazing with a telescope which turned out to be marvelous.
Special thanks Jóse, who was our guide and is very passionate about what he does, thus making the excursion both interesting and entertaining.
We are definitely going back to Tenerife next year and would like to ascend Teide with CNG.
PS. If you are going to also try out stargazing, take the option with a telescope, since there is also one without one by taking which you would miss a lot of beautiful views.(unless you already looked through a telescope before).
And also don't eat TOO much before, since the road up to the national park is very winding.
